My '86 Camaro IROC-Z

This is my first project car. The pictures that follow show the progress of the restoration/modification of the car. I will update the condition of the car at various points throughout the process.

UPDATE 12-12-01
I removed 35 gallons of water from the interior The engine is not locked up as was earlier believed. Thanks to the guys/gals at The Hideout

UPDATE 12-21-01
I had a problem with the new starter but it's all worked out now. A new starter got it to turn over. It won't quite fire yet so I may have to drop the tank and put in a new fuel pump. I have already changed plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. I guess it's getting enough spark but no gas. Fuel Pump and filter, maybe some new lines. Also discovered a major leak in the filler neck of the gas tank. Next up will be the fuel system then some junkyard shopping for an interior and rear window along with a few other minor things. This probably won't come for a while as I need to save some money first.

UPDATE 1-21-02
Not much happened yet. I still haven't checked the fuel pump or filter. I did discover that the ecm power fuse and the wiring that should be connected to it was gone. I think this may be a major part in the car not starting. I went junkyard shopping today and got a new ecm fuse holder and wires, along with a rear hatch off of a '90 RS. I'm looking into getting a parts car so I'll see what happens with that. I will aslo be adding a section for what I've purchased for the car and the price.

UPDATE 2-6-02
Nothing to update yet. I have a broken fuel line now but that's it. There won't be much action for a while b/c I need to save money to get started.

UPDATE 4-29-02
I bought a 350 out of a '71 Chevy truck for $150. I also ordered most of the new stuff I will need to build the engine. I ordered Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, Edelbrock intake, Vortec heads, Crane Energizer Cam(included in rebuild kit), Pro Form Distributor, and a new crank. I will be boring the engine 30 over and building it whenever the crank comes in. It's on a back order right now. I'm also buying a parts car.

UPDATE 8-13-02
Man, it's been a long time since the last update. I've gotten a lot done since then. Built the 350 .030 over. It's been done for a while. We got the old 305 out. We had a problem getting the torque converter in but a new B&M 2100 stall fixed that. Two days ago, we got the 355 and tranny set in there. We still need to connect everything. We also pulled out the gas tank and will be getting a new one. We are going to put a pump inline outside the tank. I'll add a few more pics. I'm not going to update the parts list yet but I will tell you it's over $4,000 now.

UPDATE 8-26-02
IT'S ALIVE!! We fired it up last night and it ran great. We still have some tuning to do and get the cam broken in but it runs. It actually shot flames out of the Hooker Headers.
Listen to it fire up for the first time! This was recorded about 25 feet away. The timing wasn't set yet so you can hear that plus the cam throught the open headers.

UPDATE 11-27-02
Three months after the first start-up and we are still working out a few small things. It shouldn't be long before I have pics of it at home. It's getting pretty cold and the snow has started so there won't be much driving it but I will get to work on the suspension as soon as I get it home. I still need to update the parts list but I may change that, I don't really feel like messing with it.

UPDATE 2-21-03
We've had quite a bit of snow and cold weather so we haven't worked on the car for a long time. Our next move is getting the T.V. cable set properly. As soon as we get some good weather we will get it taken care of.

UPDATE 7-15-03
The car is running pretty good. The original tranny was junk so we put in another tranny that I got for $100. It works great. We put the hood on and had a test drive a few days ago and everything seems to be okay. I'm leaking a little power steering fluid but nothing serious. Also there is something loose in the front end. Next we are going to install new axles, gears and a posi unit. While we have it apart we will do some brake work. After that I will bring it home. I also updated the parts list today.

UPDATE 7-25-03
I added a few more pics.

UPDATE 8-21-03
I brought her home a week ago yesterday. Everything seems to be working fine. We put in 3.73 gears and an Auburn Pro Posi. I got the spoiler on and insalled a couple of cheapo gauges as a temporary solution to monitor oil pressere and water temp. Next will be new speedo gears to get the speedometer working correctly. I'll add some more pics soon.

UPDATE 9-2-03
I got the speedo gears installed last week and the speedo works great now. We had some flooding yesterday but my mom and dad got the IROC up on ramps and jack stands so everything is okay. I added some more pics today also.

UPDATE 11-11-03
I installed the Jegster bolt in frame times about a month or so ago. Look for links to pics at the bottom of the page.

UPDATE 1-8-04
HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's been a couple months since an update, but there hasn't been anything to update. It's been covered up sleeping in the garage. I did have a chance to get it out a couple weeks ago and after changing the second set of fouled plugs it ran great. It's still running a little rich and the timing is still of. I got a new Grant steering wheel along with the "No Wheel No Steal" system for Christmas so I will get that installed first thing in the Spring. Also I will be putting the exhaust on finally. I think that's all for today.
